FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas baseball’s first portal addition this off season has a very familiar last name and adds to the Hawaiian flavor on the roster.
Kuhio Aloy, the younger brother of current Razorback shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, announced on Friday that he will be transferring from BYU to Arkansas.
“HAPPY ALOHOG FRIDAY HAWAIIANS!!!” Kuhio Aloy said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “COMMITTED!!! LETS GO!!! YESSAH!!!”
Arkansas pitcher Dylan Carter (6-0 in 2023 and 1-0 in limited innings this season after surgery) also announced Friday that he will return next season for a sixth year of eligibility.
The younger Aloy hit .269 with 8 home runs and a team-high 38 RBIs last season for the Cougars (21-31, 7-23) and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team.
He started 46 game as BYU’s designated hitter and four more at first base and was in the top three among Big 12 freshman in both homers and RBI while having a .447 slugging percentage and a .329 on base percentage.
Both brothers excelled at HP Baldwin High School in Wailuka, Hawaii, while Wehiwa was a Freshman All-American at Sacramento State before matriculating to Arkansas.
The older Aloy hit .270 with team-highs of 14 homers and 565 RBIs for the Razorbacks this season.
The Aloys will join Honolulu’s Nolan Souza as three Hawaiian-born players slated to be on the Arkansas roster next season.
Souza hit .250 with 7 home runs and 28 RBIs while starting 31 of tech 40 games he played this season.

The former Bentonville star returned to mound 10 months after surgery and had eight appearances this season while allowing 11 runs in 10 innings.
