Fayetteville, AR (KNWA/KFTA) – Former Hog Hunter Woodhall qualified for his third USA Paralympic team in style over the weekend.
Woodhall set a 400m Americas record of 46.09 early Saturday morning and then ran a wind-aided 10.78 (+3.5 wind) to win the 100m in the afternoon.
Hunter is set to join his wife Tara, who is a favorite to medal in the women’s long jump in the summer games.
“Obviously in Tokyo last cycle we weren’t able to see each other compete and that was really tough,” Woodhall said. “I’m going to be there for the whole Olympics, Tara will be there for the whole Paralympics so just being able to support each other and feed off the crowd and everything, it’ll be a totally different experience.”
The two are each other’s biggest supporters. Hunter was in the front row in Eugene when Tara qualified for Team USA and Tara cheered loudly from the stands in Florida over the weekend.
Hunter earned silver medals in the 100m and 400m at World Championships earlier this year. Performing well in Japan has him feeling confident as he prepares for Paris.
“It was great, just getting the experience of traveling internationally and being in front of a crowd,” Woodhall said.
For Hunter and Tara it’s about finding a balance between focusing on competition and appreciating the opportunity at hand.
“As much as you can enjoy that moment, as much as you can be in it, you know you’ve already done everything you need to, the result is already in,” the Paralympian said. “You just execute and have fun and all that will kind of fall in place.”
The Paralympics run from August 28th through September 8th following the conclusion of the Olympics.
