FAYETTEVILLE — Orangeburg-Wilkinson (S.C.) three-star linebacker Jordan Avinger has an option from Arkansas to play on the other side of the football.
Avinger, 6-3, 225, has an offer from Arkansas to play running back. He also has visits set to South Florida and East Carolina. He has multiple offers but all want him at linebacker except for Arkansas. Kolby Smith coaches the running backs and is recruiting Avinger.
“He said they can use me in different ways, in the slot, running back, just my versatility I can bring to the team,” Avinger said.
His stats as of nine games in 2024, Avinger rushed 56 times for 869 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Avinger had 50 tackles, including 39 solo, six tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Avinger was impressed with the Hogs.
“It was good, they showed a lot of love so I could see myself coming here,” Avinger said. “I’ll go on my other visits and make my decision from there.
“The hospitality and love they showed, and the players, they make you feel at home.”
Cam Settles was his player host for the Hogs.
“He didn’t say much, I didn’t ask him,” Avinger said. “I’m pretty sure he had a good time, though.”
Avinger said the Hogs set the bar for him before he takes his other visits.
“I can see myself doing it,” Avinger said. “It’s my only running back offer, so if I do come here – if I want to play running back, if I want to play linebacker – I’m not sure what I want to do yet.”
