Robyn Herron taking the Razorbacks to new heights, but always striving for more

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) – Perfection is something that Arkansas junior pitcher Robyn Herron knows all too well.
After all, she was just the second Razorback in program history to throw a perfect game when she accomplished the feat back in February of 2024. However, her path to the Hill was not as straight forward as one might think.
“It was hard, I’m not going to lie,” Herron told Pig Trail nation back in February. “When I pitched at Alabama for the first time, I was really nervous, but I think I handled myself pretty well, and I’ve definitely grown a lot since then.”
In high school, Herron knew nothing about Arkansas softball, let alone the Natural State. She wanted to make sure that she could see herself living in Fayetteville before she made a final decision of where to play her college softball.
It was the calming words of head coach Courtney Deifel that eased her mind when it came to committing to play for the Razorbacks.
“When Coach called me, I was honestly kind of confused,” A laughing Herron added. “I knew like instantly that she was an amazing person. So I definitely wanted to pursue that even after like the first phone call.”
Herron joined the Hogs back in 2023 as a freshman and it didn’t take long to make a bigger impact with the team. In 2024, just her sophomore year, she became the second Razorback in program history to achieve perfect.
A perfect game against Illinois State in late February of that year.
It was the second time in history that a Hog pitcher threw a perfect game. Razorback legend Mary Haff was the first back in 2022.
“It means a lot,” Herron said looking back at that moment in time. “It was kind of cool that Mary Haff was the only other person to do that and me and her come from the same pitching coach back in Tampa. So I thought that was kind of cool and full circle.”
So far this season, Herron picked up right where she left off in 2024. The southpaw struck out 16 against Tennessee a few weeks ago, but her bigger goal this season is to establish herself as a true leader on the roster.
“I’ve just really dug into forming relationships with everyone on the team,” Herron mentioned. “People just look to me because one, I’m a pitcher, so I feel like it’s kind of natural. But I really want to help out any way I can.”
In softball a player fails more often then they succeed. Yet when the Tampa native looks back on her Razorback career when all is said and done, there’s one thing she hopes Hog fans remember.
“I’ll be proud of just my heart that I gave to this program and how much I love this place,” Herron concluded. “My heart is just full of love.”
Love and perfection, two things that are hard to find in this world.
