FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy’s big weekend at Globe Life Stadium was enough to land him SEC Baseball Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Aloy hit .571 with two home runs and five RBIs in his team’s four games last week – a home win over Washington State on Monday and two wins in three games in Arlington, Texas.

That included a 4 for 4 day in an Arkansas’ 8-6 win over Michigan on Sunday in its finale of the Amy Bank College Baseball Series.

Aloy needed only a triple of the cycle on Sunday after homering, singling twice and doubling.

The Sunday win moved the Razorbacks to 6-1, their best start since a 7-0 opening in 2021, with a Tuesday 3 p.m. game with visiting Grambling (4-3) up next.

Arkansas was ranked No. 2 in The Athletic’s new college baseball poll, which had Texas A&M No. 3, Florida No. 4 and LSU No. 5 in an all-SEC top five.

The Razorbacks moved up a spot to No. 4 nationally in the new D1 Baseball, Baseball America, NCBWA and USA Today coaches polls released on Monday after finishing the weekend with wins over TCU and Michigan.

No. 1 Texas A&M (5-1), who lost a game to Cal Poly last weekend, remains atop all the USA Today poll with LSU (6-1) and Tennessee (7-0) joining Arkansas in the top four of each rankings.

The USA Today Coaches poll has Tennessee as No. 1.

Perfect Game is an outlier with Arkansas ranked 11th and Georgia as No. 4 in its poll.

Aloy and his younger brother, Kuhio homered in the same inning in Friday’s 3-2 loss to Kansas State.

It is a feat that has been done only seven times in a Major League Baseball game since 1900 per the Elias Sports Bureau.

Both Aloy brothers have gotten off to fast starts this season for the Razorbacks with the pair both hitting .417, both having three home runs and both with 7 RBIs.

Wehiwa Aloy is 10 for 24 while playing in all seven games while Kuhio Aloy is 5 of 12 with three starts and appearances in four contests.

After Tuesday’s game with Grambling opens a 10-game home stand, Arkansas will host Charlotte in three-game weekend series.

The Razorbacks and 49ers (3-3) will play Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 and Sunday at noon.

Charlotte comes in on a two-game losing streak, dropping a pair to Old Dominion on Saturday and Sunday after winning 10-9 on Friday.
