Arkansas completes successful softball trip out West with another win over Omaha

TUCSON, Ariz. – Redshirt senior RHP Morgan Leinstock (4-0) twirled a one-hitter as No. 13 Arkansas (8-2) fired off a 5-2 victory against Omaha Sunday at Hillenbrand Stadium.

After a 4-1 weekend at the Bear Down Fiesta, the Razorbacks move to 8-2 overall.

Leinstock (4-0) went the distance in the circle, limiting Omaha to one hit and one earned run across 7.0 innings. Leinstock retired the first seven batters she faced before giving up a walk. The Scottsdale, Ariz., product fanned a season-high eight batters. In 13 innings pitched over the weekend, Leinstock went 2-0 and gave up just one hit and one earned run with 15 strikeouts. Backing Leinstock, the Razorback defense played flawless with zero errors on the day.

The Hogs strung together five runs on 10 hits, including a home run by Cylie Halvorson. Arkansas tallied 10 or more hits in two games and outscored opponents 26-8 over the weekend. The Hog pitching staff only gave up five earned runs across 36 innings in Tucson.

Reagan Johnson, Hannah Gammill and Rylin Hedgecock had two hits apiece vs. the Mavericks. Cylie Halvorson powered Arkansas behind her two-run home run in the second. Halvorson and Bri Ellis each plated runs on sacrifice flies.

Johnson finished the weekend with three-straight multi-hit outings after going 2-for-4 at the plate with her sixth stolen base of the season. She also leads the team with six multi-hit performances on the season.

How It Happened

After a quiet first, Halvorson put Arkansas up 2-0 on her two-run home run in the second.

The Razorbacks put up another three runs in the third inning. Back-to-back sacrifice flies by Ellis and Halvorson stretched the lead to 4-0. Then, Hedgecock soared an RBI single to right to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Omaha trimmed Arkansas’ lead in fifth on a two-RBI double to left center.

Arkansas returns to the friendly confines of Bogle Park for its home opener at 4 p.m. Feb. 22 against Illinois State. The Hogs host the Razorback Invitational Feb. 22-25 which features a six-game slate.
