Arkansas Men’s Track and Field wins 2024 SEC Championship, women finish second

GAINESVILLE, F.L. (KNWA/KFTA) – Arkansas men’s track and field has won the 2024 SEC Championship while the women’s team finished in second place.

Going into the second to last event, the men were trailing by four points to Texas A&M but overtook the Aggies thanks to the strong running in the Men’s 5,000 meter race.

Patrick Kiprop won the 5,000 meter race setting a a meet record with a time of 13:32.94, Ben Shearer finished in fourth and Kirami Yego finished in seventh.

The men’s title came down to the 4×400 meter relay as the men headed into the event with a point and a half lead over the Aggies and four points ahead of Alabama. Lance Lang had a huge leg in the 4×400 to give Arkansas the lead.

The Arkansas men won their fourth straight outdoor SEC title and 23rd in program history.
