FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (arkansasrazorbacks.com) – The Razorback 1-2 combination of #1 Johnell Davis and #2 Boogie Fland are two of the 20 players listed on the 2025 Jerry West Award watch list, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced today.
The annual Jerry West Award, named after the late Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player, celebrates its 11th year by highlighting the top shooting guards in Division I men’s college basketball.
Davis, a graduate senior transfer from Florida Atlantic, was a top 10 finalist for the Jerry West Award last season as well as a top 20 finalist for the Wooden Award. He is listed as the top or #2 rated transfer in the country for this season after being named the 2024 AAC co-Player of the Year. In the AAC last year, Davis ranked among the top 15 in free throw percentage (2nd, 85.7%); scoring (4th, 18.2 avg.); field goal percentage (4th, 48.3%); defensive rebounds (9th, 4.88 avg.); rebounding (11th, 6.3 avg.); steals (12th, 1.44); assists (13th, 100 total) and double-doubles (13th, 3). In 2023, he led FAU to the Final Four.
Fland, a freshman, was rated as one of the top two guards in the country for the 2024 recruiting class as well as being a 5-star prospect by Rivals, ESPN and 227 Composite. He played in the McDonald’s All-America game, the Jordan Brand Classic and USA Basketball Nike Hoop Summit. He was a member of the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team and won gold, with current Razorbacks D.J. Wagner and Karter Knox, on the 2022 USA Basketball U17 Team at the FIBA World Cup.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting on Friday, Nov. 1. In late January, the watch list will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just five. The Selection Committee for the Jerry West Award are composed of top men’s and women’s college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
