FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ baseball program has added three 2025 pledges in the past couple of weeks, including a five-tool prospect that flipped from Tennessee.

Edmond (Okla.) Santa Fa shortstop/pitcher Carson Brumbaugh (6-2, 195) announced his decision Saturday to head to Fayetteville instead of Knoxville.

He joins the Waco (Texas) McLennan Community College duo of infielder Sherman Johnson (6-2, 185) and pitcher Issac Godard (6-3, 200) as recent commits to the Diamond Hogs.

Arkansas now has 23 pledges in a 2025 class ranked No. 3 class nationally according to Perfect Game.

Edmond Santa Fe coach Kris Webb has high praise for Brumbaugh, a right hander whose fastball has been clocked at 96 miles per hour.

“He checks every box,” Webb said. “Not very often do you get to hang out with a five-tool player, but he really does it all. There are not very many weaknesses in his game.

“He plays defense, can hit for power and average, can run and can throw and is just a very talented young man with a great head on his shoulders.”

Brumbaugh committed to Tennessee after a visit in November of 2023, but began to have second thoughts.

“I think during the recruiting process last year, Arkansas was really high on his list to begin with,” Webb said. “But he just went to Tennessee and he had a really cool trip there and decided that was what he wanted to do.

“But then he stepped back over the winter and made a realistic decision in the summer that that was just too far from home and decided that Arkansas was a better fit for him.

“He felt really comfortable there, it is a lot closer to home and now his mom and dad and family can watch him play more and then get back a lot easier.”

Webb understands the appeal of Arkansas.

“Arkansas is one of the top programs in America and one of the best baseball environments in all of baseball and that’s including amateur and professional,” Hobbs said. “…I mean why would you not want to go and play there?

“If you know college baseball and just baseball in general, you know that the fan base is just top notch and one of his own.

“Will Edmunson was there last year and he played for me here in 2021 as my first baseman when we won the Connie Mack World Series. He was really exited to go over there and had nothing but good things to say about it.”

Brumbaugh is part of a loaded Edmond Sant Fe squad that also includes 6-7 junior outfielder/pitcher Savion Sims, who is committed to Oklahoma.

“It is as talented a roster as there is in Oklahoma and we are blessed to have guys like Savion Sims, who is as talented as they come in the 2026 class and our top arms as SEC-type arms.

“We graduated one last year off the team that was a state tournament team that got a lot of time, but we bring everybody else back.

“We are hoping to be dogpiling in the middle of May. That’s our goal and anything short of that will be disappointing.”

Johnson started his collegiate career at Dallas Baptist, where he played in two games and redshirted last season before matriculating to McLennan.

He hit .400 with 4 home runs with 45 RBIs and 12 stolen bases as a senior and Conyers (Ga.) Loganville and was named the Class 5A Player of the Year.

Godard pitched in five games for McLennan last season with a 1.50 ERA and 7 strikeouts.

He was born in San Diego and went to high school in Cedar Hills, Texas.

McLennan also has former Razorbacks Ty Waid and Jonah Conradt on its roster.
