FAYETTEVILLE — Former five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II is took an official visit to Arkansas after entering the transfer portal.

Cook, 6-0, 185, was highly recruited in the Class of 2023. Cook ranked as the No. 31 player in the nation, No. 3 wide receiver and No. 5 player in the state of Texas for his class. Cook has also visited Arizona State and Syracuse since entering the portal. While he was highly recruited out of DeSoto (Texas) High School, he isn’t using the visits now the same as then.

“Definitely more like a business decision,” Cook said. “Like the best decision that will put me in. Best position to put me in to getting drafted. Obviously watching the (NFL) Draft was motivation.”

Cook spent much of Thursday night watching the NFL Draft with Ronnie Fouch who coaches the wide receivers. He did get to tour the UA facilities as well.

“I think it’s nice,” Cook said. “I actually took a visit to Arkansas my junior year of high school so it is good to be back in Fayetteville. Just to see the city and everything.”

When he makes his final decision Cook talked about what will go into it.

“The best situation to put myself in,” Cook said. “Whoever is going to develop me not only as a player, but as a person too.”

Bobby Petrino being the offensive coordinator at Arkansas certainly helps the Razorbacks.

“Definitely for sure,” Cook said. “He knows how to get his guys the ball. He has been doing it for a long time.”

Cook ended his Longhorns career with 16 catches for 273 yards and two touchdowns across two seasons. He talked about what he does best on the field.

“I say get open and make it easy on the quarterback,” Cook said. “Create explosive plays.”

Been to Arizona State and Syracuse. Arkansas last visit?

“I believe so,” Cook said. “I don’t have a specific time set, but I think after I leave here me and my family will make the best decision where we think I should go.”
