FAYETTEVILLE, AR (Pig Trail Nation)- Former Arkansas Discus and Shot Put Thrower Roje Stona is heading to Green Bay to participate in the Packers Rookie mini camp.

Stona, who ended his collegiate eligibility with second place finish in the NCAA Indoor National Championship in the Shot Put and setting a school record, decided to go through Arkansas’ Football Pro Day in March.

“He did do training with us down here. You know, Coach Geopfert put him through some training to get him ready for it,” explained Men’s Track and Field Associate Head Coach Doug Case, “The pro scouts all liked him and it turned out the way it is right now. I hope he makes it.”

Growing up in Jamaica, Stona never played any organized football. However, he has the physical attributes that make for a successful football player.

“You can see his physical stature. You can understand why they were interested in him. And the guy is just a great overall all around athlete. So I think he’s got a really good shot,” adds Case.

Stona went through catching drills at tight end during the Pro Day at Arkansas, as well as some defensive line drills.

Regardless of how things go in Green Bay, Stona is still committed to his throwing. As a world-class discus thrower he is still training. In April he met the qualifying standard in the discus for the 2024 Paris Olympics for his home country of Jamaica and could represent them in the upcoming games.

“He’s obviously got a lot of things on the table right now. So he’s working through all that. But again, he’s just he’s a tremendous kid. He’s got a great work ethic. And if anybody can do it, I think he’d have a great shot to do it.”
