FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) – Charles Davalan knew early on that he didn’t want to play Hockey, the most popular sport in home country of Canada. Rather, it was the sports that isn’t too popular outside of the US, that he wanted to play.
Davalan picked up baseball early on. While his friends were skating the frozen links in his hometown of Montreal, the 5’9 sophomore had a bat in his hand.
Because of the limited popularity of the sport in Canada, Davalan and his family decided they needed to head to the United States if Charles wanted a chance to play at the next level.
“My dad, my mom, and then me, we packed our car up and then, we moved down to Florida,” Davalan told the Pig Trail nation team. “They they kind of not left me there, but, left for a while and then played at an academy.”
After playing two years at TNXL academy in Florida, Davalan went and played his freshman year at Florida Gulf Coast University back in 2024. After his an All A-sun freshman team year, Davalan his an unconventional place to get to the top conference in college baseball.
“Coach Bobby, he called me he reached out through Twitter, and then I guess there was some, coach in our, conference that saw that one in portal and reached out,” Davalan said. “As I saw that message from, a coach from Arkansas just saying is coach, Wernes from, Arkansas. I just kind of freaked out, so that was super cool.”
It didn’t take much more convincing after that for Davalan to come to the Hill. From there, he has set the tone for the Arkansas lineup earning an All-SEC first teamer nod in year one at Arkansas.
Now, he looks to help the Hogs lift their first title in program history. For the full story, head to the video next to the headline.
