FAYETTEVILLE — Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point three-star offensive lineman Hugh Smith was back in Fayetteville this weekend for his official visit.
Smith, 6-5, 300, committed to the Razorbacks on May 7. Smith was offered by Arkansas on Jan. 11 and that moved the Razorbacks up on his list. Following his official visit he provided feedback on how it went.
“Man, I had a great time,” Smith said. “Loved all the coaches. Loved how we ate a lot. I got to be honest I put on an extra 10 pounds. Great time seeing Coach (Sam) Pittman and talking to him and Coach (Eric) Mateos and meeting my future family. Great time and I can’t wait to get back.”
Smith talked about what he saw at Arkansas during the three-day visit as opposed to his unofficial visit.
“More of the academic stuff,” Smith said. “We got to talk to the head academic lady. She’s very nice and very informative. When I came for my unofficial in spring ball we really covered everything, but it was nice too see everything again. I can’t wait to get up here.”
Smith was one of two offensive linemen on Arkansas’ campus with the other being Buford (Ga.) four-star Ben Mubenga, 6-5, 290.
“I was kind of pressuring him a little bit, but I didn’t want to be too up on him,” Smith said.
Smith owns a 4.2 grade-point average and is the true identity of a student-athlete. He looked ahead to his future outside of football.
“I’m thinking somewhere in business, but I really don’t know to be honest,” Smith said. “I’ll figure that out when I get here.”
Back to the official visit, what was the highlight?
“I would say the photo shoot,” Smith said. “That was a lot of fun. That had a hype guy walk in there when you walk in. It was lots of fun and the eating. Lots of eating. That was fun.”
