Gammill’s Go-Ahead Single in Seventh Lifts No. 13 Arkansas Over No. 7 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. (Arkansasrazorbacks.com)– Senior third baseman Hannah Gammill’s go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh propelled No. 13 Arkansas to a 2-1 victory over No. 7 LSU in Friday’s series opener at Tiger Park.

Improving to 33-12 overall and 12-7 in league play, the Razorbacks claimed their 12th ranked win and their third top-10 road victory on the season. Arkansas has won seven of their last 10 games vs. the LSU Tigers.

Picking up her 50th career win, RHP Morgan Leinstock (13-2) twirled her second consecutive complete game and eighth of the season as she surrendered just one unearned run on three hits across 7.0 frames. Leinstock struck out one batter and issued one walk. The reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week retired the first six Tigers she faced Friday night and did not give up a base hit until the fifth inning. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Leinstock stranded five runners throughout the ballgame. Leinstock has not allowed an earned run in her last 21 innings pitched.

Outhitting the Tigers at a 7-3 clip, Arkansas was led offensively by Bri Ellis, who finished with her 11th multi-hit effort of the season with a 2-for-3 performance and scored Arkansas’s go-ahead run. Friday night’s hero, Gammill finished 1-for-4 at the plate with the Hogs’ lone RBI. Nia Carter, Cylie Halvorson, Kennedy Miller and Rylin Hedgecock recorded a hit apiece. Arkansas stranded a season-high 11 base runners Friday night.

The Razorbacks overcame an early 1-0 deficit in the third when LSU plated an unearned run on a fielder’s choice. In the top of the fourth, Arkansas quickly responded off the bat of Lauren Camenzind. With two outs and Raigan Kramer on second, LSU committed a fielding error which allowed Kramer to cross home and tie it at 1-1.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Ellis reached on an infield base hit to third. Following Ellis, Halvorson drew a walk to push Ellis into scoring position at second. Both advanced a base on a passed ball before Gammill chopped an RBI single up the middle for the go-ahead run.

LSU didn’t back away in the home half of the seventh. The Tigers led off with back-to-back singles, but Leinstock and the defense shut the door and recorded three straight outs for the victory.
