FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas redshirt-junior quarterback Taylen Green has earned national recognition after being named to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 List and selected as a Manning Award Star of the Week following his standout performance in the Razorbacks’ 58-25 win at Mississippi State.

Green was phenomenal in the Razorbacks’ second SEC road win of the season, completing 23-29 passing attempts for 314 yards and a career-high five touchdowns while rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. He was the first Arkansas quarterback to throw for five touchdowns and rush for a touchdown in a single game since Ryan Mallett accomplished the feat against UTEP in 2010. Green’s five touchdown passes are tied for second-most nationally in a single game this season, and he is one of two Power 4 quarterbacks to throw for five touchdowns and rush for a touchdown in a single game this season, joining Cade Klubnik of Clemson. It also marked the 13th time in Green’s collegiate career that he had thrown for at least one touchdown and rushed for at least one touchdown in the same game.

Through the air, Green became the first Arkansas quarterback to throw 5+ touchdown passes against an SEC opponent since Brandon Allen threw six in a win over Ole Miss in 2015 and just the fifth quarterback in Arkansas history to throw for five or more touchdowns in a single game. Under Green’s guidance, the Hogs posted 673 yards of total offense during the win, eclipsing the 600-yard mark for the third time this season after doing it just four times total from 2018-2023.

Joining Green on the Davey O’Brien Great 8 Award Watch List were Max Brosmer (Minnesota), Dillion Gabriel (Oregon), Colton Joseph (Old Dominion), Riley Leonard (Notre Dame), Maddux Madsen (Boise State), Marcel Reed (Texas A&M) and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado).

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who wore No. 8 as a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955.

Green was joined by Joey Aguilar (App State),  Max Brosmer (Minnesota), Josh Hoover (TCU), Colton Joseph (Old Dominion), Cooper Legas (Tulsa), Fernando Mendoza (Cal), and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) as Week 9 Manning Award Stars of the Week.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 519 different quarterbacks from 133 schools have been recognized. Sixty-six players were honored during the 2023 season.

While the Manning Award selected 29 quarterbacks for its preseason Watch List, additional quarterbacks are expected to be added to the Watch List later in the season. Finalists will be selected in early December and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

The Razorbacks return to Donald W. Reynolds Stadium this weekend for an 11 a.m. showdown with No. 19 Ole Miss on ESPN. Arkansas has won five straight over Ole Miss at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, with the last loss coming in 2008.
