FAYETTEVILLE — Broken Bow (Okla.) Class of 2027 quarterback Breydon Howell is pulling in Power 4 offers and has one from Arkansas among others.
Howell, 5-11, 166, was offered by Bobby Petrino on May 13 and then came to the Arkansas camp on Saturday. Arkansas and others have offered him as both a quarterback and athlete.
“The recruiting has all been crazy,” Howell said. “I’ve got offered in four positions. I’ve got one in DB, one at slot receiver, one at running back and then QB and athlete. Arkansas came out of and watched me, Coach Petrino did, and then offered me as an athlete. They said keep the QB position in mind because of the way the ball pops out of you.”
What did the offer from Petrino and Arkansas mean to you?
“It means a lot,” Howell said. “Coach Petrino is a legend. Lamar (Jackson), it’s just amazing and what a humbling experience to be offered by him.”
Howell came to camp to show the coaches what he could do, but also had other reasons.
“I’m really looking to see how Coach Petrino and the QB staff coaches down here. After this maybe go see some facilities. See how wonderful it is out here.”
Due the lightning and inclement weather outside the entire camp was conducted in the Walker Pavilion. It appeared that Howell spent the entire day at quarterback.
“I didn’t know coming in,” Howell said. “They said they were gonna put me through a lot today. They know I can do it.”
As far as when he’s on the field, Howell talked about what he feels he does best.
“I feel like I definitely stay under control,” Howell said. “Just letting the game come to me. A bunch of QBs now don’t like to take the easy reads, the little five-yard check downs, and I love doing that. Once that opens up then they will start guarding that and the deep ball will open up right after that.”
On Sept. 6, Howell and Broken Bow defeated Durant (Okla.) and future Razorback edge Colton Yarbrough 42-34. Howell is very familiar with the talented future Razorback.
“We play on the same 7-on-7 team,” Howell said. “Sean Cooper is amazing and a great guy.”
Howell has offers to such schools as Auburn, Miami, Oklahoma State, Boston College, Stanford, Tulsa, UTSA and others. He stopped short of naming a favorite.
“Not yet, maybe after June 15 when they all start contacting,” Howell said.
June 15 is the first time coaches can reach out on the phone or other methods to contact Class of 2027 prospects.
“I’m stoked about that,” Howell said.
As a sophomore, Howell completed 108 of 183 passes for 1,994 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed 94 times for 1,052 yards and 19 touchdowns. Howell also caught one pass for 17 yards.
