FAYETTEVILLE — Fort Gibson (Okla.) Class of 2027 4-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett was one of several blue chip talented recruits at Arkansas’ Saturday camp.
Hackett, 6-7 3/8, 260, is one of the top recruits in Oklahoma in his class and has pulled in offers from all over the nation. Hackett holds offers from such schools as Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State and others. He reflected back on how the camp went for him on Saturday.
“I think the camp went great,” Hackett said. “I won all my reps and got to learn a lot from Coach (Eric) Mateos. I can’t complain with that.”
Hackett has so many offers he has lost count of them.
“I have 17 or 18,” Hackett said. “Right in that range, Arkansas was my first one.”
In addition to being your first offer, what did that offer from the Hogs mean to you?
“It meant a whole lot,” Hackett said. “I remember I was in the weight room. I had my Razorback shirt on from the camp last year. I figure it was just a coincidence. I got that text and hopped on the phone with Coach Mateos. It was a really big deal for my grandpa and everyone. I was excited.”
Hackett talked about the facilities at Arkansas.
“You can’t complain about this,” Hackett said. “This is nice. I think it’s pretty awesome and unique.”
Mateos is set to begin his second year coaching the offensive line. The assistant has made a very strong impression on Hackett.
“He’s an awesome guy and coach,” Hackett said. “That’s really why I’m here because of how high I am on Coach Mateos and how high he is on me.”
Hackett, like so many offensive line recruits, is impressed with Pittman, a former offensive line coach, being the head coach now.
“That’s impressive,” Hackett said. “He’s not far from me. We play his high school….Grove. But yeah I got to talk to him when I came down in the spring.”
Arkansas and others may have their work cut out for them. Hackett admits he had a favorite as a younger person.
“Probably Oklahoma,” Hackett said. “Just being a kid from Oklahoma. Anything is possible (when it comes to possibly signing elsewhere).”
Hackett’s game has very few flaws. He talked about what he feels is his biggest strength.
“I would say my pass protection,” Hackett said. “My feet work is pretty great. I can dominate.”
He also talked about what he needs to improve the most.
“Maybe my post step,” Hackett said. “I don’t think defenders can run around me. As I get older I’m going to continue to grow, get stronger and develop. Hopefully then in the NFL.”
