FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas is in the mix to sign former Georgia defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett who wrapped up his official visit on Tuesday.
Jarrett, 6-5, 350, hasn’t had a big role at Georgia, but could ready to breakout with a new school with more opportunities to play. Arkansas offers that. He gave good remarks about Fayetteville and Arkansas.
“It’s looking nice, I’m not gonna lie,” Jarrett said. “The town, I didn’t expect it to be as great as it is. I was sleeping (on it), I’m not going to lie. It’s good to come out here and see everything. Really the town, it’s really spacious. I thought Arkansas was a small place, but it’s pretty big.”
Jarrett is being sought by Deke Adams. Arkansas’ defensive line coach has made a strong impression on Jarrett.
“Really Coach Adams, he recruited me hard in high school and I was like ‘Well, now I’m in the portal, I might as well test my options,'” Jarrett said. “Seeing Coach Adams, I was like, I’ve got to go visit.
I like how he keeps it real, his coaching style and stuff like that. As far as developing guys, as far as seeing his room, talking to his players, they love him, they trust him. I’m a big trust guy, so if you can trust a guy to stay here multiple years, I feel like that’s a good fit.”
The Razorbacks are Jarrett’s first visit. Who else is in the hunt?
“This is the one I’m seeing right now,” Jarrett said. “Not necessarily focused on anybody else right now, I’m focused on day-by-day.”
While Jarrett had no recruiting host he did have good interactions with standout defensive tackle Cam Ball.
“I didn’t necessarily have a host,” Jarrett said. “I didn’t get to talk to Iann (Geffrard) yet. I talked to him on the phone but not in person. I talked to Cam, that’s pretty much it.
“Yes sir. Cam pretty much gave me the spiel about the university alone. He says he loves it. I can see this place being something someone loves. It’s a real nice college town, the school is nice. I got to see the academic facilities and was like ‘whoa.’ It’s nice. That’s what really stood out to me. I’m just trying to see the rest.”
Jarrett also detailed his future plans once his football career ends.
“I’m a communications major but I switched to consumer economics,” Jarrett saId. “I’m trying to see what it’s like over here, I’m pretty sure they’ve got a good communications program over here.
“I want to be a sports broadcaster.”
Arkansas wants two defensive ends and a pair of tackles as well. They signed former Michigan State defensive end Ken Talley, 6-3, 256, on Monday.
