FAYETTEVILLE — Only a few people projected Arkansas to have a good football team this fall.

After only two games some others are now jumping on board. ESPN’s Power Football Football Index places Arkansas at No. 23. The lone loss was 38-31 to Oklahoma State on Saturday in Stillwater. The Cowboys are now No. 27, four spots behind the Razorbacks.

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete.

The PFI gives Arkansas a 57.2% chance to reach a bowl game and 2.8% to make the college playoffs.

Arkansas rolled up 648 yards of total offense to 385 for OSU. Arkansas had 33 first downs to 21. Arkansas had the ball for 36:14 compared to 23:46 for the home squad. Arkansas was 11 of 19 on third-down conversions while OSU was only 5 of 16.

Texas, Georgia and Alabama make up the top 3 with the FPI. Ohio State is No. 4 then Tennessee and Ole Miss. Missouri is No. 9, Oklahoma No. 15, Texas A&M No. 19 and LSU No. 20.
