FAYETTEVILLE — Jackson (Tenn.) North Side athlete Javonte Smith is being sought by the Razorbacks to help at cornerback.

Smith, 6-1, 175, was one of the nine recruits at Arkansas this weekend for an official visit. Smith had a big junior season. He played both ways. On offense, Smith rushed 26 times for 118 yards and one touchdown. He also grabbed 48 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns. On defense, Smith had 21 tackles, 14 solo, four interceptions with three returned for touchdowns. Following his visit to Arkansas he talked about the visit.

“I really enjoyed my visit,” Smith said. “I really enjoyed myself just being around the players and with the coaches and seeing what they’re really about and how genuine they are in recruiting me and wanting me to be here.”

Anything in particular stand out to you?

“Probably going up to the Big Red, the biggest bar in the stadium,” Smith said. “It was a really an amazing view just seeing the field and just knowing what it means to them.”

He has visits remaining to West Virginia and Tennessee. He has also visited Missouri. Where does the Hogs stand now?

I couldn’t really answer that question because I have two more visits to go,” Smith said. “They’re still in there.  I just couldn’t place them right now because I have two more visits to go on.”

Smith also commented on Marcus Woodson who would be his position’s coach if he chooses Arkansas.

“Really laidback kind of chilled,” Smith said. “I couldn’t describe his personality, but he reminds so much of my grandfather who passed away. His personality sticks out. Very humble, very funny, very funny guy. I like him.”
