FAYETTEVILLE — Greenwood Class of 2026 four-star quarterback Kane Archer threw the football extremely well on Thursday with Bobby Petrino watching while also showing good times in running events.

Archer, 6-1, 207, helped lead the Bulldogs to a 13-0 record and state championship. Archer completed 195 of 266 passes for 2,399 yards, 33 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed 103 times for 659 yards and 16 more touchdowns. Following the camp, Archer talked about how it went for him.

“It went well,” Archer said. “I ran some good times. 4.22 shuttle, 4.67 40 and 30 vert so I started off really good. Got some speed in the agility. Went outside and threw for Coach Petrino. He was helping me out. Overall it was pretty good.”

You are obviously well coached at Greenwood with Coach Chris Young, but do you feel like you picked up some things from Petrino and the Arkansas coaches on Thursday?

“Some of that stuff, it’s just reinforced in my mind,” Archer said. “Because they teach some of the same stuff at Greenwood that Coach Petrino’s trying to teach out here — eyes in the middle of the field, longer drop, stand tall, all that stuff.”

Archer offered an honest opinion when asked about Petrino.

“He’s a really good coach,” Archer said. “He knows exactly what he’s talking about. He’s a hard-ass, but that’s what I want in a coach, for sure. I like him a lot and hope to stay in touch with him.”

Don’t you feel like a coach who is a hard ass is better for you in the long run?

“It makes you play better, you’ve got somebody that at least cares,” Archer said.

Archer has had a busy summer and still has more plans for June.

“It’s going good,” Archer said. “I’ve already visited Missouri and now here. I’m going to TCU, SMU and Kansas State next week. I don’t know, I’m looking everywhere, a place that I feel like at home, like the coaches, where I can see myself and playing. Getting to the next level is the biggest thing, for sure.”

The Bulldogs were 13-0 last season and state champions. Archer will not have a shortage of wide receivers this season as Greenwood goes for another title.

“The first 7-on-7 tournament, we weren’t really in timing, didn’t really have rhythm,” Archer said. “We played yesterday and went 9-0, beat Cabot 51-10 in the finals. So we’re definitely getting our timing down. It makes me look really good when I’ve got three guys running sub-4.5.”

Rivals.com rates Archer the No. 243 recruit in nation for Class of 2026. They place him No. 2 prospect in Arkansas in 2026 and No. 6 dual-threat quarterback nationally.
