CARLSBAD, CA. (KNWA/KFTA) – A big day for Maria José Marin as she was crowned the individual national champion at the NCAA Championships at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
She secured the title after shooting 12 under par in four rounds of stroke play. She shot a 70 in the first round, 72 in the second and then an impressive 7-under 65, the lowest ever by a Hog in the NCAA Championship.
On the final day today, she shot a 3-under 69 and that was enough to secure the title for the SEC Golfer of the Year.
It was a big comeback for the sophomore as after the first round, she was sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard tied for 21st.
As a team, the Hogs made the cut for match play on Tuesday, the first time in program history the team has done that.
