One Step Closer! Future Hog heading to Gymnastics Olympic Trials

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (Pig Trail Nation)- The dream of becoming an Olympian is one step closer for future Razorback Joscelyn Roberson.

Roberson, who trains at World Champions Centre in Houston alongside Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, finished 4th in the floor and 6th in the vault on her way to a 13th overall finish this past weekend at the US Championships in Ft. Worth.

On Monday, USA Gymnastics announced the 16 gymnasts invited to compete in the Olympic Trials in Minneapolis at the end of June. Roberson was among those names along with Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee.

“I really want to get to the Olympic level,” says Roberson, “It’s not even to have that status. It’s like, I don’t care about that. But, since I was three years old, I’ve wanted to be at the Olympics. So I I think it’s just for me, I want to be there.”

The team of 5 will be picked from the 16 competing at Trials. An experience her future head coach Jordyn Wieber remembers well.

“Even though going into that year I was the reigning world champion, there is never a guarantee that you’re going to make the team because the only thing that the national team staff cared about was where are you right in that moment?” Wieber told us as she looked back on her journey to the London Games in 2012,

“We competed in the trials. We went back to this room. We’re all sitting there and me and Ali (Raisman) are holding hands. They come in and they start listing off the names and of course, alphabetical order. My last name started with W, so they announced mine last, and it was so emotional. I remember just, I’m not a very emotional person in general, but I just burst into tears because that was something I obviously dreamed about for so long. I couldn’t even believe that it was happening.”
