FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy has been named a finalist for the 2025 Brooks Wallace Award.
Aloy, the first Razorback finalist in program history for the award honoring the nation’s top shortstop, is one of five finalists. The award, presented by the College Baseball Foundation, is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980 and died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Finalists, which include Aloy, Oregon State’s Aiva Arquette, UCLA’s Roch Cholowsky, Arizona State’s Matt King and Florida State’s Alex Lodise, were identified based on their combined offensive and defensive performances from this season. The 2025 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year will be announced on Friday, June 13.
Aloy, named the SEC Player of the Year, is slashing a team-leading .355/.440/.686 with 20 home runs, tied for fourth most in program history, and 64 RBI through 59 games this season. The junior shortstop, who has started every game, is on his way to turning in one of the best offensive campaigns in program history, leading the Hogs in nearly every major category, including batting average (.355), slugging percentage (.686), on-base plus slugging (1.126), runs scored (77), hits (86), doubles (18), home runs(20), extra-base hits (39) and total bases (166).
Aloy, who is a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award, has also dazzled defensively with just five errors in 205 total chances (.976 fielding percentage) while helping turn 28 double plays this season.
