FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas has signed former Oklahoma cornerback Kani Walker.
Walker, 6-2, 206, visited Arkansas on Thursday and Friday then made his decision. At OU this season, Walker had 24 tackles, 18 solo, 6 pass breakups and 1 interception. He told Hogville why he chose the Razorbacks and why he canceled all his other visits.
“Because I didn’t have to see anything else,” Walker said. “I’m a senior now so it’s lot different when it comes to the process versus being in high school and like being in your freshman year. Like just making sure everything is lined up. Making sure everything with school is lined up, making sure life after football lined up because you don’t get it forever.
“Just having that conversation with them the first couple of hours I can tell they have some guys around here…like there’s one of the guys around here that graduated in 2020 and he’s like 30 he’s still here. So that goes to show how much of the tradition and how much they care about the university and they’re really true to the university. I can tell that energy and that passion it’s definitely cut from Arkansas and nowhere else. I understand the coaches have been here for years so I know this isn’t no switch around so I can trust them a little bit more knowing that not everybody is just bouncing around.”
Walker also talked about what on the visit to Fayetteville appealed to him.
“It was great,” Walker said. “I can’t tell you a place where I felt nothing is wrong. Everything about Arkansas I have loved so far. The coaches and their energy. Having conversations with Coach Wil (Deron Wilson). He talked a great game of football. I can tell how detailed he is. Coming from a school like Oklahoma where they teach details and are so precise. It helps me that I know the game of football better than you think.
“I like we were in there watching film for two hours straight. Really skipped dinner. We had to get boxes to go. It was just a good talk. Good football. Great vibes here. I can’t say nothing wrong about Arkansas. Even the scenery I was thinking nothing out here. As soon as I came out here I could see how busy it is and how it’s more of a city. I enjoyed it and my lady enjoyed it as well.”
Walker played his high school football at Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County. On3 rates him a three-star recruit in the transfer portal with a rating of 88 (just below four star).
Walker joins Oregon four-star offensive tackle JacQawn McRoy, 6-8, 375, in the Arkansas transfer portal class.
